In a celebration of the diversity and splendour of the UK’s best loved landscapes, Wastwater in the Wasdale Valley was officially awarded the prestigious title of ‘Britain’s Favourite View’ in a programme of the same name.
At nearly three miles long, almost half a mile wide and, with a depth of 258 feet, Wastwater is the deepest lake in England. Add to this the fact that it is overlooked by England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike at 3,210 feet, and it becomes an area of dramatic extremes.

Ride the YHA Shuttle Bus and explore the Lake District an easier way.
From Easter to October the YHA Shuttle Bus links eight hostels door-to-door – it can also carry your rucksack ahead of you, leaving you free to make the most of your holiday. With free pick-up from Windermere train station, the shuttle bus takes care of you from the minute you arrive.
