About the Lake District

Exploit endless opportunites to climb, walk, paddle and pedal lakes and mountains or, for a more relaxed pace, potter around charming towns and villages, explore castles or enjoy a host of great family attractions.

Wastwater view

Britain's favourite view

In a celebration of the diversity and splendour of the UK’s best loved landscapes, Wastwater in the Wasdale Valley was officially awarded the prestigious title of ‘Britain’s Favourite View’ in a programme of the same name.

At nearly three miles long, almost half a mile wide and, with a depth of 258 feet, Wastwater is the deepest lake in England.  Add to this the fact that it is overlooked by England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike at 3,210 feet, and it becomes an area of dramatic extremes.

Stay at YHA Wastwater from £12.00. For more information click here
