If you're interested in volunteering for YHA, or just like to keep up-to-date with what our current volunteers have been getting up to, you can find out all the news here.
From November 2008, we will be launching a new programme of volunteering opportunities in and around Wales. The programme will aim to get more people, especially young people, involved with volunteering within YHA.
We will be holding various events and specially designed working parties for individuals, groups and students to get involved with from November. The whole programme is still being finalised, and promotional material will be available soon, but to keep up-to-date with what’s going to be happening, make sure you keep coming back to the YHA website and find out what you can get involved in!
If you would like to register your youth group or student society to be involved with the programme for young people, please email wesleyerpen@yha.org.uk
This summer 10,000 young people from across England and Wales will have the time of their lives at one of YHA’s Do it 4 Real summer camps. For the second year running we have been able to send a team of enthusiastic, hard skinned volunteers to act as Team Leaders alongside the army of paid staff employed by DI4R.
Each volunteer, around 20 in total, has spent at least a week at one of five camps available to them and so far all is going well.
For a volunteer it can be quite a different experience to a paid staff member. Not only do they turn up half way through the summer and jump straight into the role, but they give up their own time to support YHA free of charge.
One of this year's volunteers said “just got back from my two weeks at Edale and it was absolutely fantastic! I had a really great time, learnt a huge amount and got to work with a range of different young people, which was terrific.”
To find out how you can be involved in next year’s camps, please get in touch.
Get involved by supporting YHA Chester and the volunteer run hostel YHA Woody'sTop with redocoration and refurbishment, please see the Opportunities page for more details.
Each year the Postellers take groups of young people from London and the surrounding areas on 12-13 weekend and weeklong breaks at various hostels around the UK. They get involved in all kinds of activities including walking, cycling, rock climbing and lots more.
This summer a small group of them spent the summer up north enjoying a week of walking and various other activities. They all had a great time and got to spend a few hours on the last day in Whitby taking in the site and relaxing in the grounds of YHA Whitby playing football and Extreme Frisbee!
If you want to find out more about the group or find out when their next event is then please visit www.yha.org.uk/postellers for more information. They are always looking for new members and leaders to help run the trips!
